I have had my car for a month now and time to start a few mods. What should I do first? I'm only interested in adding some simple bolt ons like a chip, airfilter, air intake system etc....Can someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks for any help.
simple would be cut open the air filter lid with K&N filter. Bypass the throttle body coolent lines, 160 degree T-stat with a Hypertech power programmer... doesn't go much further for bolt on mods. Exhaust, but good systems are bucks.
K&N filter is probably $60 for your car, was $50 for mine. The air filter lid is free, just cut it up with a saw or tin snips. TB bypass is free, you may need to buy some clamps, i think MidAmerica makes one specifically for later vettes, its like $20? i think (dont know for sure). Hypertech Programmer is the most expensive at prolly around $300, but this is what you need for a car without major modifications. 160 thermo you can order from hypertech too for your car. After that you have exhaust work (upwards to $1000).
IMO, your best bet is to just get a couple catalogs sent to you from Ecklers, madvet.com, corvette america to start off. And dont buy anything from them that guarantees more HP unless you tell the guys here about it first.
cut air cleaner lid = free to 60 bucks. you can cut your own or by a used one, or by a pre-cut one for 60.
160 T-stat = 15 bucks.
hypertech programmer is around 290. Can get the used for 200. The main thing the programmer is for is to turn the fans on sooner to benifit from the 160 degree T-stat. This will most likely give you the biggest HP boost. You can also firm up shift and raise shift points with it and increase the spark timing if you want. Later if you change rear end gears, you can change the speedo to match.
You can also cut back the electrode on the spark plugs, this is free and worth a little HP.
