Default Whoops.

Hey all, i have had a prob with my heat. it goes on for a minute and then goes cold. i beleive now that it is my heater control valve... but could be a vacuum problem as well.

when i went to go manually open the valve,i broke the hose on the top of the valve... thing is, the heat still does the same thing and i dont hear any air out of the broken hose....
i dunno what to do. plz help :-)

We need more info. What year is the car, how many miles, and is it automatic climate control? It could be nothing more than a bad vacum tee ( near the distributor or a bad programmer. More info please.

If the heat goes away when you are at an idle and comes back on when you accelerate you don't have enough water in the radiator

Did you break the hose or the metal part the hose fits over? If you broke the metal part the replacement # is 14046043. You shouldn't feel air coming out of that hose, its a vaccum hose. With the heat turned on that valve should remain in the up. If it does, and the heat still on, feel the hose both going in and coming out. They should be hot. If the top one isn't hot that valve is bad. To check it, remove it and blow into one end and manually move the valve. If the bottom hose isn't hot, you most likely have a clogged core.

last time i felt the hoses i beleive the bottom one is hot.... i want to try opening the valve manually, but i dont see this little lever you guys are talking about, all i see is a hard plastic hose going into the metal valve. is it on the bottom of the valve?

Yes it pushes up from the bottom, the arm is attached to a plate and the arm has an elbo. When the heat is on the arm pushes up on the shaft. If both hoses are hot then the valve is most likely working. Are you getting air through your duct work in both AC and heat? There is a vaccum door in the duct work that seperates the two. Perhaps the one for the heat isn't working. You have to crawl under the dash on the pass side to check it out.
