Hows this mod work? Ive heard of it but am not sure what happens-- obviously the coolant hose bypasses the TB but why is this good? Does it sacrifice efficiency? Is there any gain?
Yes, its easy to do, and costs almost nothing. (Maybe $5 at the auto parts store for a hose connector joint)
The benefit is from your TPI not getting as hot. It was made to keep your TB from freezing up, and easy starting, but as its never that cold here, I don't need it. The cooler intake charge = more power.
It's purpose is to keep the throttle body from freezing and also assist the car in reaching operating temp faster. You won't feel a thing, but you do get to list it in your sig as a mod :D
My plenum used to get so hot that you didn't want to touch it for very long. I noticed that my new throttle body had been leaking coolent si I bypassed it and now the plenum never gets hot.
The dyno results speak for themselves. I agree that it is a simple mod that is part of a big picture. It is not something like headers or heads that will make a huge difference.
