I am trying to get my 93 LT1 together.
The heads have rubber washers both in the front and rear. In the rear of the heads there is a tube that connects them which is attached to each head with a hollow bolt with holes in it to let coolant flow through the bolt/tubes connecting the heads.
What goes in the front of the heads with the rubber washers?
Could anyone send close up picts of what the heads look like front and rear ?
I didn't take the engine apart so having some problems getting it back together without picts.
Thanks
Ken
The plugs are now in the rear of the heads!!!
Was the steam line ever in the front of the heads?
Because the plugs are in the rear of the heads yet the rubber washer was still in the front of the head when I got the heads back from the machine shop.
Thanks
Ken
Thanks for the feedback, that was just what I was starting to suspect.
HERE I HAD THE GUY PUT THE HEADS ON THAT PORTED AND POLISHED THEM. I CAN NOT BELEIVE THAT HE DID THIS TO ME!
Well they say jobs go quicker the second time around.
Thanks again everyone for you input guess I am back to square one.
You guys are awesome for responding on a Sunday morning when you should be out driving.
Guess I will be wrenching all day.

If the heads are on the engine and in the car, you still *might* be able to get to the plugs. Just use a 1/4" drive ratchet (the 1/4" drive portion of the ratchet fits into the plug). Having said that, if the plugs have never been removed it's likely you will not be able to get them out and the heads will need to come off.
To be safe I think I will just remove the heads. Especially since I am going to make the person that built the heads put them back on.
Probably better to put the bolts in the steam line loosely before setting the heads on.

You might want to label each head "Left" and "Right" so he doesn't screw up again.....
If he will be swapping the heads around, he's going to have to deal with the tube anyway. I would make sure he knows that proper installation of the steam tube is part of his "penalty". And that there will be no leaks.

You can't install the steam line bolts loosely in the heads before intalling them. The steam line is one piece and the bolts pass thru a fitting in the steam line.
It would be rather entertaining to watch two people trying to set the heads in place while not flexing/kinking the solid steam line however.
Btw....I would make sure he replaces the 4 washers (2/side) otherwise you risk having coolant leaks.
