Default Rev limiter or what? Help!

I have a stock 92 LT1 vette with the stock auto trans that has only 53000 miles and has been babied but when you accelerate quick and reach about 4500 rpms it stalls out right before shifting like the fuel has been cut off or the spark restricted. If you back off it is back to normal. I have been told this year did not have a rev limiter. I have placed in park and I do NOT get the stalling problem when reving. I have had the fuel filter changed with no change. I had it in the dealership for them to look at. They tried to tell me that the was an intake leak that was allowing oil down into the distributor. They wanted to replace the distributor and intake gasket. After refusing and returning home for futher investigation there was no such problem - a little dirty but no sign of oil. Any ideas of what is causing this?

It does have a fuel cut-off/rev limiter. But, it is set for just a hair over 5800 rpms.

Sounds like a fuel pump issue, but with no test information that's just a guess.

Opti's usually show symtoms under low speed/high load conditions.
