I need real world opinions (track/street/dyno proven) regarding ecm/pcm tuning. My mods are listed below in my sig. block which includes a custom cam cartridge from Hypertech. Am I sacrificing horsepower and/or torque by not going with a custom program from say Ed Wright or others. If so, who should I contact that will make me the greatest power for the cheapest price. I realize that Hypertech is not known for significant gains but I do use it for adj. rev limits, fan settings, idle speed, and 160' thermostat. Can all of these features be burned into a custom chip. Please advise. Thanks.
You have a flash ECM so there is no custom chip involved. I have a 94 LT1 also. Your setup cold benefit from a higher than stock idle and some air fuel and timing tweeks. The 94 has MAF so the ECM can adjust to the cam and head mods on its own.
I suggest you get tuner cat for your ECM, a cheap lap top and Datamaster for diagnostics and do the tuning your self. Datamaster can be purchased with a cable to hook the laptop to the ECM which is also needed for tuner cat. You won't need the Hypertech POS so just sell it. You looking at:
99 bucks for tuner cat with 94 LT1 Vette ECM def file. This also includes all the programming utilities.
190 for datamaster and the cable. Get that stuff from akm electronics. There is a link on tunercat for akm.
200 or less for a pentium 150 laptop with a 12" screen.
500 bucks and your in business. Go through the archives in this forum for info on programming.
