When I put the new gaskets for the intake on ,do I have to put RTV around the water passages on the front & back of gasket . Thanks for your help as always Jim.
I recommend that you use the Fel-Pro teflon coated gaskets which do not require silicone rubber. I would guess that no gaskets recommend silicon rubber.
Ok guys here's my story, as we all know the front and rear of the intake have a past of puching out after the intake is installed. It seems that the vortex engine in the 96 pick up with alumn heads had a problem inherent of this. GM had to design something to fix this problem and they did. They came up with a special sealant for this they used no rear or front gasket at all but used a special silicone that they designed. This stuff works very well and the GM P/N is 12346141. This stuff is bad to the bone and you don't have a gasket in the front or back at all just this stuff. Call a GM parts dept and ask one of the parts people this stuff works very well.

Re: Intake Gaskets (KNCRSR5R)
Gaskets on the sides and only RTV on the front and rear. Make sure you lay down a .25 inches in diameter bead of the RTV. I put it on a little too thin the first time and had to re-do it again. The first tube I bought from GM but it was old and half cured. I bought the second RTV tube at Autozone. Just make sure its says "sensor safe" otherwise the vapors can kill your O2 sensor.
As Mez said no gaskets at the front or back just the silicone but you still need the gaskets for the mate between the intake and the heads. The GM stuff is really good stuff.

Re: Intake Gaskets (cajun86)
No, you don't have to cut the gaskets. Just take them out of the package and put them on. Just make sure your heads and intake are squeeky clean by wiping them off with lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol to remove any oil or old gasket material. The aluminum can scratch easily, so be carefull what you use to scrap off the old gaskets. When you put the silicone on, run a small bead up on to the heads to seal the very ends of the gaskets where they meet block. I used new GM gaskets only because they make a new gasket just for the LT4.
Thanks Mez..........I have never seen this gasket before and just thought it was like the rectangle valvle cover gaskets......anyways....thanks for the heads up and now I have got to get dirty!!!! :seeya
