Default Intermitent no spark

1991 A4

Will start and run for about 30 minutes, then stalls with no restart, im getting no spark. If left over night or for a few hours it will restart and run for an unknown period of time. This happens whether just idling in the garage or driving at any speed.

So far-
Replaced cap and coil

ran for a few hours and thought problem was fixed but to my avail it stalled again, restarted for about 3 minutes and then stalled for good, no spark, until the next morning at which time it ran for another hour and stalled.

Getting over 7 volts at dist. Battery terminal

Can anyone help me find a place to start? Could this be an ECM problem?

Thanks
Yellow

It sounds like an (ignition control module) to me , this can cause intermittent starting and dying. I believe these can be tested, new ones run about $50.00...WW

ICM's with a lot of hours on them typically have your symptoms, that is, when they get hot, they quit, but when you cool them off, they work again.

Replaced the ICM, fired right up!!!! let it run for about an hour and go through its heat cycle a few times, drove it about 40 miles and no problem.

Seems to have fixed the problem!!!!

50 bucks and 15 minutes of work

Thanks again to everyone for the help, i can now live the C4 lifestyle again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucky you got a warning. When my ICM died suddenly, it took my coil out with it! Flat-bedded me like a ****!

well my cap and coil were shot when the problem arose, the coil was arcing all over the place and the cap was in rough shape so i think they all went at the same time.

200 miles and still running strong, im a happy camper. Cant believe i let the car sit for six months because of a 40 dollar part.

thanks again
