Default testing after opti change

I'm about to change the optispark, plugs and wires in my 92. I intend to test fire the engine before I reinstall the water pump, belt, etc.. Of course, I'll put the front crank pulley back on before I fire it.

Anybody see any problems with this dry firing ? Just don't want to get it all back together and find out I messed up somewhere and have to tear it all down again.

I guess you will have some sensors inoperative depending on what parts you leave off. That may have some effect, but I guess it would start.

Other than a defective opti, I'm not sure what could go wrong except for forcing the cam pin in the wrong slot or crossing the wires. You can avoid all of this with a little care and planning.

I just did it and only had one problem. I forgot to close the air valve on the water pump. When It started, water was spraying all over the place.

My heart stopped. Thought I had a big leak and would have to pull all that crap off again. It is mildly humorous now.

I did the same thing when I change my opti and pump. I left the pump off, but attached the ECT sensor as well as put the MAF back on. I ran it for about 20 seconds or so just to be sure I had it on right and all cylinders were firing.

oops.. forgot to put e-mail notification on. I'm sure you've started it up by now, but the only tips are to double check your wires and make sure nothing is touching the headers.
