96 LT1
i went the magnaflow, freeflow, direct fit route for my 90, (p/n 93441). when holding this thing up to the light, other than a fine mesh screen, you can see straight throught it. i got it at summit racing retail store - $134 less a $20 off coupon they sent me. got the magnaflow front y-pipe w/ freeflow precats on order - next a corsa cat back (but after christmas) -
Just be careful with aftermarket cats. I have had several cars manufactured after 95 turn on the check engine light when a cheap aftermarket cat was installed. The computer system measures cat efficiency and with some of the inexpensive cats the code gets tripped. That being said, I haven't used a Magnaflow and they are a reputable company so there should be no problem.
Joe, why are you going with the front Y-pipe with cats instead of one without?
Also, have you found any flow numbers for the various cats that made you decide on the Flowmaster over the others?
Just trying to gather as much info I can to make an intelligent decision.

When people are contributing here, you should note the OP owns a 96 LTx motor. They don't have a main cat. They have two fronts. This is different than OEM L98s. (Actually the oldest C4s only had a main cat.)
IMO, (for the L98 contributors) you can consider using one main cat on L98s now. Originally, the fronts handled NOx gas while the other carbon (or it might be visa-versa).
Newer cats are 3-way. One unit handles both issues.
I can't say what the best LTx option is -- but I'd consider Magnaflow first. I was happy how their spun CATS worked on my L98 (in the front Y).
When I had the Stainless works LT headers installed on my LT1 I of course could no longer use the stock cats and went with RT highflow bullitt cats and have been very happy with them. The body of the unit is stainless so they are a bit more expensive.
And as noted above you have an LT1 so you are going to need two cats for your true dual exhaust system.
