I have an early 92 lt1 6 speed and was thinking about switching gears for a little more acceleration. The car is some what of an everyday driver as it does get on the highway and such from time to time. I believe it has 3.42's in it? Or somewhere in that region and was looking at 3.73's or possibly 4.10's. Was wondering how bad each will kill top speed on it and how much more acceleration it would produce. Car is basically stock now other than a few little things such as airfoil/ TB bypass. But eventually I am looking to do head/cam with supporting mods producing close to 400 rwhp. Was wondering if anyone would have any info for me.
Thanks.

After long-tubes & exhaust, 4.11's were the first substantial mod I made to my '95. Great bang-for-the-buck value!
A stock M6 C4 has a D44 rear-end with 3.45 gears in a 3-series carrier. Actually the D44 is a variety known as a Super44, and it has the thicker pinion shaft from a D60. This is critical info...if you just call Summit and get a D44 Ring & Pinion set, you're going to end up with something that you can't use.
Do yourself a favor and call Rich Perkins at DTS (800-521-0628) and tell him what you want to do and discuss your options. This is their specialty and they have a great deal of C4 experience...they won't steer you wrong.
I was able to get the entire project done for ~$450. The 4.11 R&P set ran ~$200. DTS installed the gears in my D44 for ~$100. The installation kit ran ~$90, and the rest was freight back and forth.
I'd do it again in without question...huge difference.
