Default Small Upgrades

well i was wanting to add some more power to my 92 LT1 this winter.

I was thinking of doing either of these two combinations.

first
electric water pump
underdrive pullies
and shorty headers for just under 600 dollars

or
edelbrock heads
edelbrock cam
which would run me 920

spec on head and cam

I was going to go with ported stock heads and lt4 came but that is like 300 more dollars give or take

yeah id like to do something like that, but that is a lot out of my price range right now, i heard claims of 75hp from the edelbrock combo with intake work and a larger tb. i think im going to go that route for now

Shortys won't give you much in the way of HP. I'd go with electric water pump, underdrive pulleys, and a cam. Should be cheapest route and provide most hp improvement for the money.

I agree with Rick; LE is a very good way to go ....... however if his work is over your budget why not just consider the LT4 Hot Cam Kit. It will work wonderfully on your LT1 and everything you need comes in the kit except for 1 thing ... after the new cam you will need a custom tune to take advantage of the cam.

so i was reading a write up on the edelbrock stuff and they said they didnt need a tune after words, but you could get one to get a lil more out of it. but if i already have 1.6 rr and lt4 springs ill just need the cam right? which the lt4 kit comes with everything but i already have most of it, but neither the kit or just the cam comes with new lifters? is this right, do i need new lifters?

so if i were to get lt4 heads they are just a lil more than the edelbrock and are larger cc, so i really want to do lt4 heads and cam, but how much would a tune run me?

You can reuse your roller lifters as long as they're in good shape.

You're right, you don't need the kit as you all ready have the roller rockers which removes a lot of friction in the valvetrain you're also correct in that the kit doesn not include new lifters. Depending on the miles on the springs you might want to consider fresh ones. I had my lifters replaced with ls7 lifters when I had the kit installed due to no additional labor charge.

The new tb isd about 300? and the intake work is several hundred if you go with a quality outfit like LS2 portworks so you're talking 500-600 above your initial purchase.

I had a well known PNW tuner do a hotcam kit, new opti wires & plugs and my request of a "smooth drivability tune" on top of my already installed long tube headers on my 95 and I picked up 50 rwhp on his mustang dyno. 252 to 292

peabody, are you running an automatic, that seems low to me, but then again i am pretty new to all this. and my car only has 25k on it and has been kept garaged and never seen rain and owned by older men who really babied it. so im sure the lifters will be A-ok. when you were talking about a tb and intake work is that something i need to do? or is that something i should look into when i get heads finally?

Oh sorry, my mistake .. getting old... I saw you post that you were going with ported heads and I read it as porting of intake and a new tb neither of which is required but will add a few more hp.

Yes mine is an auto with a 3.07 but I drive it in the rain every day I was happy with the measured increase in rwhp. It may sound odd but I'm not so much interested in the peak hp as I am with the dead on reliability of the tune as the morning part of the commute is an hour of low idle stop and go. It goes plenty quick enough for me and frequently does
