Mem-Cal Interchangable?
once thing I couldn't tell if it is ok to do.
Can I put any mem-cal module from any olde GM product, say a 90 Buick Century and reprogram the EPROM and put it in my 93 LT1?
basically, I don't want to butcher up the stock mem-cal module. and don't mind paying a couple of $ and pull a few used modules from a junkyard, then reprogram those instead of my stock unit.
Thanks for your comment in advance.
Alex
BTW, I am going to solder a AT29C256 EEPROM in it so that will miniumize any virbation connection problems with ZIF sockets

The other thing you'll run into is that the ECM is different between the Buick and your Corvette, so you also need to make sure the memcal came from the same ECM.
Best thing to do is find as close to your application as you can.
Ludis' website has a great cross-reference of ECM numbers and applications. For instance, an S-10 uses the same ECM as '86-'89 Vettes... 1227165. The memcal is different though.
BTW, what is Jeff's E-mail? I might go with new if the Junk yard decided to give me hell.

I'd say get a 350 SBC MemCal...That should be close enough...BTW: A 165 MemCal new runs about $36; a 730/727 MemCal about $48...
And as a bonus, you get the latest BIN with the new MemCal...(They do change them)...
Thanks for the Info. I am going to order a new Mem-cal for back up and then retrofit the old one with a Flash EPROM.
Thanks again. I'll be posting again when I get the new mem-cal.
