ignition control module = icm? where is it located? sorry I'm not super familiar with the lt1 yet, this vette is my first chevy.
Are the optispark distributors from advance autoparts any good or should I order a GM one from the internet?
There are many different aftermarket Opti's for your car from Accel to Dynaspark to MSD. It depends on how much money you want to spend. Search Opti threads. You will find probably more info on this subject than any other.

Just a note - my 96 was puking coolant all over the optispark. It still ran. When I later replaced the water pump I inspected the distributor, and it was immaculate on the inside. It is still on there at 115k miles and the car runs perfectly.
If you do find that you need a new one I would suggest avoiding the auto parts stores and the $99 specials. Spend a little time with the search function - there are many existing threads that will be of interest to you.
I did some comparison price shopping on the web a few weeks ago and found many options: There are probably many others but these range from $250 to $600. Is a $600 Dynaspark or $469 MSD really that much better than a cheaper brand like Accell, Jegs, Delco or Delphi??? Some will say yes, others no. I read somewhere that AC Delco and Delphi are the same - just a different name for the GM part. Some of the generic brands are also the same but with various names on the box packaged as a store brand. From what I've read the Dynaspark is probably the best sealed and therefore the least likely to get wet again. However, many folks with the original stock vented 95/96 optisparks have gone well over 100k miles and 12 years without problems. If you are capable of doing the work yourself then you can save alot of labor cost.
still have to get the icm and coil checked out before I decide on replacing the optispark, but it looks like i'll be getting the delphi unit from the corvette forum store if i end up getting one.
thanks for all the help
by the way, i've got 120k on the original vented opti. maybe it's still working and something else has gone bad but I won't find out til i get that icm checked at the parts store.
If you do end up replacing your Opti, the best price on an OEM AC-Delco(Delphi...same thing) is "thepartsladi", for $245. They have fast shipping, great customer service, and every part I have ordered from them has had no problems. All AC-Delco.
I went out to test the icm and coil this morning, and it cranked right up! The only thing I can figure is it had something to do with the torrential rain we have had in my area over the past few days, it's been wet since she died. Today it was dry and it has cranked a few times since then.

Any ideas?
It's starting to sound like some kind of bad connection. Could be at one of the connector plugs, wire broken inside the insulation, loose ground...
There's no substitute for having the shop manual at your disposal when this kind of problem shows up. It has all of the wiring diagrams and troubleshooting procedures.
