Default 84 leaking coolant

Just realized a puddle of coolant under the hood. Thought it was the coolant hose but i noticed coolant under the radiator on the plastic and suspension parts. Do you think i need to replace the whole radiator or is there ways of repairing it?

If one of the tanks is leaking it is probably just as inexpensive to replace the radiator as it is to have the tanks replaced. It will also of course give you a new radiator which as we all know tend to plug up and have a whole slew of issues later in life.

I had coolant under my car last week after the very cold temps that we had here, turned out to be the radiator hose was leaking. The cold weather must have caused it to leak because up to this time I had no problems..(Check all hoses for loose clamps).. If it turns out to be your radiator is leaking (thepartsladi )on ebay sells a GM replacement for $130.00 I bought one of these last year and they work great..They are made by (Delphi )one of GMs parts suppliers...WW

If you are thinking of repairing it, first you have to find out what is leaking. Pull the radiator and if you don't have the facilities to check it, take it to a radiator shop. It may just be the seal between one of the plastic tanks and the core. It also could be a cracked tank. I have owned my '84 for 22 years and have had tanks replaced twice. The radiator core is the factory original and it runs as cool as any C4 should. Beware of an "all metal, multiple row core" replacement. If you don't want, need, or care to pay for a high performane all aluminum radiator in the $500.00 range, stick with the factory style aluminum core/plastic tank style radiator. There are excellent factory replacements like Modine available in the $125.00 - $175.00 range. If you R&R the rad yourself, a tank should cost in the $35.00 - $55.00 range for the shop to install on your core.
