Default I have a flaky wiper switch...

...and working on this area seems to be a closely guarded secret.

The shop manual keeps referring to the "stalk" as the turn signal/wiper switch. However, when I look up the wiper switch online I find what looks like the part that the stalk plugs into. Nowhere in the index of the FSM can I find any reference to this part. However, by leafing through the steering column section I see something they call a "pulse/pivot" switch which must be it.

My problem is that the wipers may stop, or fail to turn on. I can get them working by jiggling the turn signal lever. This is obviously annoying and it will probably fail completely at some time. This happens in all speeds and settings.

Am I correct in assuming that the stalk merely operates the actual wiper switch and that I need to replace what the book refers to as the "pulse/pivot" switch?

It would appear that the column has to be torn down to replace this item. I don't want to do all that work for nothing.

It may not be the stalk. On top of the wiper motor is the "pulse" switch unit. Rather pricey unit I would look in the Parts section for one from a used car.Playing with the switch on the column can sometimes get the pulse switch to work if you are turning it on and off to get the wipers to work.I had similar issues and the pulse unit swap fixed it.
