The AT oilpan sits in a pretty tight spot... the crossbar blocks some of the rear bolts. I was just wondering if the pan slides out from there? Or is the filter blocking the movement? Any advice? Before I get to it...
Did mine last summer, I was also looking for a leak so the X-brace had to go anyway. The filter hangs down into the pan pretty far so I would say the brace has to go.......

Re: ATF and filter change (87SAM)
I had to remove the brace on my 88...this is a good time to change the fuel filter too!
Depending on how long it has been since you changed the filter and how many miles on the vehicle, you might want to consider a full tranny flush. Mixing three or four quarts of new fluid into the nine or so quarts of old fluid has proven very expensive for some in the past
Seems like I´m in for a full days work then... any advice ´bout the brace removal? Right now she´s on jackstands. Did you have any problems getting everything to line up ok when refitting?

Not difficult! I usually unbolt the center section first, then the front and rear of the facing section (leg of the cross), then the other section. There are frame spacers at rear bolt points and brake cables tuck in there too! Just watch it as you take it apart
As Jackdaroofer said, not that bad. Hell, you will lose a couple LBS's of weight when you get all the dirt out of the grooves on the top side of the brace :D Everyone has their own way of dealing with the brace. When putting it on I secure the middle bolts first, kind of hold it up with my knees. Who knows, that my be the hardest way!
