On bose radio
If you look at the left side of the volume control ****, silk screened are the letters OFF L H. If you look closely you'll see behind the volume **** is a small **** that can be rotated to the OFF L or H positions.
From the user manual for the Bose Gold CD/Cassette/AM FM Radio
Speed Compensated Volume
This 3 position switch will automatically compensate for the increase in road noise levels at higher speeds. At normal driving speeds, set the volume control as desired.
Switching to L or H causes the volume to increase as your speed increases. The H position will give you a higher maximum volume than the L position. The H position will also increase the volume faster. Use the L position while driving with the roof panel on or convertible top up and the windows closed. The H position is best when driving with the roof panel off or top down and windows open. This feature can be turned off by turning the **** to the off position.
If you turn that **** to off with the radio on, the SCV display should disappear.

Eckler's has a rebuild and re-work service if you want to check them. But be ready for the unit to quit again before long.
(read the "customer feedback" page, very happy folks)
