Well, I've finally decided to can the Bose in my 91 coupe. However, I don't know what to replace it with. I would like to have a tuner with amber lighting to match the rest of the dash. I know most Bose users have or want to change. I'll appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Gene
Take all of the old stuff out. Go find a nice head unit and some speakers you like, 5" are pretty popular. If you like subs a 10" will fit in the hatch storage area. Buy all new wiring, the thicker the gauge, the better. Get at least 16 gauge though. Have fun wiring it all up
There was a thread on this same subject a couple of weeks ago. I went to Best Buy and had a complete ALPINE system installed. Also, if you were interested, a Navigation System will fit nicely into the old stereo location.

l98tpi: Thinking about a switching out my '91 system too! Did you have them deinstall and install new system. And can you provide the ALPINE model number, speakers, etc and approximate total cost...Many thanks!

They did remove the complete old system and install the new. The CD/Receiver is an ALPINE CDA-9847 and is mp3 and sat capable. Not sure on the speaker models, they're covered by my speaker covers and it has been about 3yrs ago when I had the system installed. I would recommend Best Buy, they did very good work.

I have heard some horror stories about Best Buy and Circuit City installs, So be careful. I replaced everything in my car a couple of years ago, was not too bad, and it sounds great; I am just getting ready to upgrade the system w/ an Arc Amp and Focal speakers up front, and two 8" subs in the rear speaker compartments.
Here is a picture of my HU, an Eclipse CD2000, w/ a Vrum Vrum mounting hardware.
And if you're going to use the original antenna, here is the pink wire where to apply 12 V from the head unit's remote voltage supply (or whatever it's called) to get the antenna up. It's located on the RH side of the radio unit:
