Under the steering column there is what is termed the ALDL connector.
I don't know what kind of reader you purchased, but it should plug in to this connector.
You'll know you hit pay dirt when the auxillary fans kick on.

Hope you got one that will acutally read the 1985 with the 870 chip. Most don't. I bought the EZlink several years ago to read codes....first time I needed it I found out the hard way the code was incorrect. Called the company and was told the reader did not support the 85 Corvette!!!

I ended up using the old paperclip and reading the blinking lights! DAMN.
It does do some data logging, but limited in the data it collects.
