For those of you with an LT-1 which headers are yall using and which would you recommend ? I've been looking at the Exotic muscle lts and the Melrose smooth flow system because those are the only two options I have really seen . How difficult is the install and how much of a gain did you see ?
Thanks for some info . I was thinking exhaust should be my next step because I have stock exhaust all the way back . I've been trying to decide on what combo to go with .... I was thinking about the EM long tubes and the magnaflow cat back system .
I've read nothing but good news from those who are running EM's LT headers. They offer extensions that will bolt right up to the factory/Corsa exhaust so long as you're running a 6 speed. Apparently, the extensions won't bolt right up without at least some modifications being made, if you're planning on using their RandomTech cats on an automatic equipped car....
I'm looking into buying a set of EM's as well for my LT1. Coated extensions with no cats. I have a 6 speed so I don't forsee any problems with installation. No cutting or welding required. The install should (I hope) be done within a day or two (weekend) and be back on the road by Monday.
I was told that EM would be having a "group purchase" sale right around the 1st of January, but I haven't seen anything posted yet. Guess they've been pretty busy. If anybody's looking to buy a set of long tubes and are considering the EM's, they might want to wait a bit until EM starts there "group purchase" sale so they can save a couple bucks over EM's regular price.
Year of car: 94 Corvette Coupe or Vert Coupe Engine 350 ci LT-1 Tranny: 6 speed ZF-6 Brand of exhaust: 3" Loudmouth II Bullet mufflers Cats Pypes 3" bullet cats Diameter of pipes 3" all throughout Brand of headers or if stock Manifolds: Exotic Muscle Longtubes 1 3/4" primaries with 3" collector Ceramic Coated
my car is the black and silver striped C4 that the camera is not focusing on but you can hear it all the way down the track.
here are some pics taken via cell phone so the quality may not be the greatest
here are a the headers (kind of hard to see under all the plastic and other stuff GM put in the engine bay
you can see in this pic where the AIR tube doesnt even com close to meeting up with the bung on the header.
under carage shot under the bumper right before the tips
under the center section you can see the SLP Loudmouth II bullet "mufflers"
here you can see where the X pipe meets up with the mufflers right before the center section of the rear end
You can see the clearance on the LT headers and the bullet cats that are slipped right on the back of them everything tucks up nice and tight

Thanks for all the replies . So if I buy the EM's and extensions I could bolt it right up to the stock cat back if I wanted to ? Also my car is an automatic so is this something I can still do in the garage pretty easily ?
Yes, you can install the exhaust system in your garage. As long as you can get the front end high enough to install the headers from underneath. I used ramps. You'll also need to cut the front tubes off your cat-back for the extensions to work. I have heard good and bad about fitment of the extensions. I took my car to Midas and they made reducers, extensions, and installed an extra 02 bung for $130.
I didnt buy extentions the pypes bullet cats are bolted directly behind the headers and the exhaust expert bent it all after that. I looks mint I wish I had a lift so I could show it off it truely is art.
Yeah everything looks great . So if the headers have to go through the bottom do I really have to have the 36" that the directions above stated ? So everybodys installs went smoothly ?
