I need to replace the gears in the head light motors.
What do you suggest plastic or metal and were to get them.
Thanks.

You probably just need the bushings. Plastic in any event. And MidAmerica is the vendor I prefer.

Three bushings per side mine were cheaper at Eklers. Do both sides my left was working fine the right would only open half way. When I took them apart they were in the same shape so it wasn't long for the drivers side.

Default Use local 1/2 dia dowel x 7/16 length

Tom,

It probably is just the three 'spacers'. I just did mine and cut 1/2 inch dia. wooden dowel. It worked great. About 2 hours to do both. Removed only three motor mounting screws and roll pin. Set a piece of plywood at the wheel and used as work area...did not remove wiring.

There is a good thread about this repair. Some people found teflon and other plastic spacers in hardware stores that worked just fine.

it is only a few dollar from the suppliers, but faster to cut than make the order.

Joe

Bushings and plastic. If you use metal, you will break something bigger and more expensive. They look like this:

The Plastic headlight motor Gear is recommended as the most reliable replacement.
