Crankcase ventilation (modifications)
I'm choosing between two intakes -- with preference for the HSR.
The HSR doesn't have the vacuum (ventilation) nipple that's on the driver's side of the intake. To raise my curiousity even further, I found some valve covers (CorvetteCentral) that don't even have vent/oil holes!!! They were for 87-91 L98s.
I looked up the manufacturer of the covers and they can cut breather holes "if you need them". That brings me to where I'm an idiot.
I pretty much thought that crankcase ventilation was a necessity. I didn't think it was optional!
Considering I like both the HSR intake and these covers, I have to ask what I'd need to do with regard to pressure venting?
I can guess I'd just need valve cover breathers with the HSR, but do I even NEED vents in the covers? Who/what wouldn't need vents?

With out a doubt some sort of ventalation is needed. Valve covers w/out are meant to be modded by someone for a particular application (size hole location etc.). At the very least for a street car a PCV on drivers side and a breather on the pass. side. If the valve covers need to be cut, the you will be hemmed into baffled gromets and not baffles in the cover itself. If you chose to use a PCV, the intake if no drilled/taped hole is provided, will need to be done. This is of course you choose to use a PCV and not just breathers on the vc.s
I just used a hole saw, the covers had baffles that I could install so I marked the spot in the center of the attachment points and drilled the hold half way then finished it from the other side. Drill it small then open it up with a sanding drum. If you use the correct hole saw size it will come out too large. These were aluminum covers not stamped steel.
I have also seen add on vents that can be attached to the end of the valve cover if you want to hide some of the hoses.

This threads timing is perfect. I am changing to crate valve covers on the BBC and was wondering if running 2 PCV lines instead of 1 and a breather was do-able
