Default Battery storage charge 4 86? QUESTIONS??

OK -here's the situation -last fall I moved my 86 C4 into my new garage/retirement home in Southern Ontario - Garage is insulated, with a 240 V-construction heater to maintain a low temp in interior. Parked the Vette with the negative battery cable unhitched. Checked the battery voltage yesterday in garage - down to 10.8 volts?! Q-because of space/hassle considerations - is there any reason I can't just hook up a 12V-TricKle charger to the battery posts(with the Pos-Battery Post still connected) and let it charge up for a day or so? Is it really necessary to unhhok the Positive+- Post as well to do so? Car has not run since the fall, and wo'nt until April/May? Any advice or thoughts on this? Thanks Guys!

I always disconnect the negative battery terminal & use a battery maintainer. I leave it on 24/7.

I have a "Battery Tender Plus" on my C5. I had to install larger ring terminals on the cables that came with the battery tender to fit the car's battery, but I leave the battery connected all the time and just plug up the tender when the car sits. I have done this for at least 4 years now, and I have not had any problems.

Just remember that he is using a battery maintainer. A trickle charger will charge a battery fully in a matter of 10 to 24 hours. A battery maintainer can be left attached for extended (Months) periods of time. I keep one on my riding mower all winter and the battery is ready in the spring. I also use one on my vette during extended periods of non use. I picked up my maintainer at Harbor Freight tools. Not sure who else carries them but it is not the same as a trickle charger or trickle mode on a standard battery charger.

I agree on the differences - I will use the trickle charger just for a day or less to 'top-up' the battery charge. I will use/buy a 'Maintainer' for storage in following years. My question was really if, for this time only, I can leave the +Post still connected in the Vette, while temporarily fitting a -Post on the battery, and connecting the Trickle charger to the two Posts, for 12-20 hours, just to fully re-charge the sleeping battery. Then dis-connecting again for the next few months. Any issues with doing this that way? Thanks all!
