Default 94 Engine Rebuild - HELP!?

Good evening everyone,

I am just going to jump right into it. I have had my '94 for about 4 years now and about a year ago I decided I was going to sell it. Well, it was hard finding a buyer and as time went on, the car seemed to get worse. I have already had a lot of engine work "done", and I say that in quotations for a reason. THe guy I took my car to is less than reputable in my book. I didnt realize this until after he had finished my car. Anyway, I am not sure that he even did half the work he said he did. But that is all beside the point.

I decided I want to start over. I have the money to make this a project. My girlfriends dad has all the tools we could ever need and he has been building cars since he was my age. The only problem is that he is a Mopar guy and he has only built two Chevy motors. So, he has the "know-how" to do the work, he just wont know the best part combinations, i.e. what parts work better on Chevy's than on other vehicle Makes.

To Business - I want a 383. I want to keep near stock compression and make around 400-450 at the wheels. It is an automatic Transmission. I am looking for your suggestions on all internal and external components. I am also looking for Long Tubes for a 94 Corvette but I cant find any decent set for a reasonable price. Chime in with your suggestions, please!!

Define your budget and how you're going to use the car. I'm in the process of building a 383 for my GS that will be in the 420-430 rwhp range. Other than a few minor things I do all my own work. I'll have over $8k in it. This is because the engine needs to be able to survive on a road course at high rpm for a significant amount of time. If you went the cast crank / stock rods / ported stock heads / etc route you can pretty easily get to 400rwhp for a lot less.

Here's my thread showing progress to date...

Should be complete in the late March timeframe.

Wow! Thank you for the reply. Well, right now my budget is non existent, but we havent even taken the motor out of the car yet. But, I go to Afghanistan in less than a year and I will come back with plenty of money to do whatever I want to it. The application is purely for street enjoyment. I have never been to a track and after I complete this project, I will probably only go once or twice to see how it does. I basically just want to be able to get from stop light to stop like quicker than most people. Thanks for the reply and the GS looks like its coming along great!
