Does anyone know if the 96 CE silver paint code had more than one formula?
Had my damaged rear bumper cover repainted off the car, bought the paint with the paint code and it does not match...far too silver...not enough grey to it.
So now I need to know if there are different formulas for the 96 CE silver or I got a bad mix.
one code and 1 color
Dupont D 8590
PPG 4330 these are from my notes so the #'s should still be good. I have a 96 CE LT 4 and when getting paint for it tell the guy mixing it it has to be exact, and I mean exact. Its a metallic paint and silver is one of the hardest colors to match and to paint. Depending on how much you are going to paint buy the paint at one time. You dont want to go back and have them mix some more as the chance it will be exact is slim. I find the Dupont to be the best....G
When you bought your paint the parts store should have had different alternate paint codes for you to pick from. its the same code but they should have paint cards you pick which one best matches your car. Its almost impossible to match paint buy just butt painting a panel, you have to blend the paint to get a perfect match. Silver is one of the most difficult to match anyway. Later, John.
RollaMo-LT4: the last line of the RPO sticker has 9021 on the left side, and 194 on the far right side. When I bought the paint I used the shop took the 9021 as a valid number. But if what you tell me is that 9021 is for a C5, that would explain the color difference I have.

Where should the 13 be?
I don't think you'll actually find the 13
That is just the OEM code, and isn't listed on the RPO sticker.
My RPO sticker the very bottom line is listed like this:
BCC/CC U9075 643
BCC/CC: Base Coat - Clear Coat
U9075: Upper Paint Code (Torch Red in my case)
I am not sure what the 643 is for
On your car, you should see BCC/CC U9566
On the C4's that were two tone you would also see a L(number) for the lower color.
Actually I did find 13U in the RPO codes and then looked this up in the service manual...yep....#13 is the paint code. Called a different paint supply shop and they found it....also found three variations under this code. Bring in the fuel filler door to match it up he told me.
So it appears that the paint on the rear bumper cover is for a C5 and will have to be redone. Time to get the sand paper out......
Thanks for the help....oh and I went to school at UMR...I am sure the town has changed alot since I left.
