On my '95 the ASR comes on at the slighest hint of wheel spin, especially when making a turn. My '96 has never come on....makes me wonder if it even works. Is there some way to adjust the sensitivity of the ASR or is this telling me that there is a failure somewhere?
I get no error codes in either the '95 or the '96. They sure act totally different though. The '96 has come on before, but it takes alot more when compared to the '95. So I gather there is no adjustment other than ON/OFF??
My 95 seems sensitive as well....I did find in the FSM that there is a rigging procedure requiring a Tech I (hand held) to properly adjust the three cables. I don't know how this would affect the operation.
My 94 ASR comes on at the drop of a hat when turning and getting on the gas. It should, I've had several 4 wheel drives with Dyneer stuff and they lock up real quick in a turn, so I figure the ASR stuff should too.
The Vetronix Tech-1A is worth its weight in gold when diagnosing problems in the ABS/ASR system.
If you have a problem and an ASR event is happening, my guess is it is a defective wheel speed sensor.
With the Tech-1A, you can determine a defective wheel speed sensor by driving down a straight road and watching the speed of all four wheels on the Tech-1A and the speedometer at the same time.
As an example, if one wheel speed sensor is defective, you would see three wheels and the speedometer registering the same speed, but the faulty sensor would be feeding information saying that wheel was not at the same speed as the rest.

Same on my '95....judging by the replies, it's beginning to sound endemic in '95s...(and maybe '94s)
Editorial:
100% of all such systems I've dealt with (had one on a BMW M; have on on my Trailblazer SS, and on my wife's G35) seem to be lawyer-calibrated...
Vette ASR gets turned OFF everytime I start it up, unless it's raining.
TBSS has a three-stage system ('on', 'traction control off' and 'stabilitrak off'), wherein 'on' shuts it down enough to be freaking dangerous when pulling out into traffic, one push of the button lets you have a bit of fun, and the third stage lets you turn it all the way off....
