Default Front brake question - pin and e-clips?

I am assembling a set of front C4 brake calipers that were apart when I got them and I have a question.

The brake hardware pin has two grooves. Which groove does the e-clip go on?

The pin is inserted from the outboard side, then the circlip goes on the groove on the pin, on the inboard-side of the caliper. Hopefully that makes sense? If there are 2 grooves at that location, I don't think it really matters; as long as the thing can't rattle out.

If you have J55 brakes (13in rotor) it goes on the outer one. If not (JL9 - 12in rotor) it goes on the inner one.

Or, it goes on whichever groove does the best job of keeping the pin from backing out.

I have the 12" rotors, so the clip would go on the inside groove.
