Ok I have learned on this thread that the fuel pressure regulator is near the distributor under the plenum...now how do I get it down to that setting? Do I screw in or out on the screw? Can I mess with it and adjust it while the car is running?
Well I found out by trial and error that screwing the screw out lowers the pressure. Only one problem.... it will only go as low as 42-43psi and the screw is almost out of the regulator. Will a new regulator be needed or is something else wrong?
I had the same symptoms way back when- a long time ago when there was a warranty on the car - car would heistate, bog, almost stall, etc. Long story short, it turned out to be the computer / ecm. or so the dealer said it was (after keeping it for 4 days). I cant help with testing of the ecm, but if you had access to another computer to swap for a bit, it could be worth it. and when you talk about the burn off module, you mean the silver box hidden behind the "bread box" right? This is unique to the 85's.
Make sure to Check your Volume, It can put out enough pressure and not enough volume. also The FPR is just a Bladder if it has a tear in it it will not supress enough fuel and flood your motor It is not terriably expensive I would recomend replacing it.
