Default Valve Covers

What are the benefits of installing aftermarket valve covers(Magnesium or aluminum etc.)? Besides for buying a taller valve cover to allow for 1.6 rollers.

the only reason i can think of would be to clear the valve train. or at least the only mechanical reason i can think of.

They're quieter than stamped steel...they were originally used with solid lifter motors.

I bough these because of the old school look & the fact they will clear 1.6 rockers.

I had re-done the factory magnesium covers but the GM castings were so bad with pitting, I still didn't like the way they turned out. I think the script Corvette lettering with the raised ribs look good on the L98.

Curveit- i forgot all about that!!!! touché

floridamale- those look great! What a clean look, with that old school attitude. do they only utilize 2 cover bolts? i can't see any sign of fasteners on inside.

after trying to "refurbish" my original L98 covers, i had to go through numerous sets of factory mag covers to get a pair i was satisfied with and then had to have them powder coated to hide what blemishes i could. Luckily, & to my surprise, they look decent and have held up quite nice. but if i would have ran across a set of finned ones like that, i would have had to have them!

Yes they are very ridged and only need the outer hold down bolts no leaks what so ever, the only thing I had to do was mill some holes in top sides for the PVC & breather.

I use the PVC opening & a hose attached to a funnel works perfect.

valve covers allow unique (better) valve covers. The stock valve require that the drip tabs be ground for aftermarket (most good stuff) rockers. Shaft rockers require taller and with the side to side ribs deleted.

Thus other than looks...there is no reason to change it.

They fit LT1 as well. Check out their site and they have pics up there. I'm trying to decide which finish to get now.
