Unplug it. Plug is located on the driver side of the transmission in the middle. Plug at the end is speed sensor.

Couldn't you just place the transmission selection lever in "Drive" instead of "OverDrive"?

I don't think that will work. At the track I run my car in "Drive" and the converter still locks up.

Won't work with a 700R/4; on the dyno in 3rd gear the TCC locked up at ~125mph so hard the operator thought it made a gear change...

Intercept the tcc wire between the ecm and the transmission harness (I think it's a white wire). I have mine connected to a switch on the console and lock up the converter manually. You can just cut the wire and later splice it together.

When you say the converter "locks up"...does that mean it shifts into overdrive?

Slipping? At a cruise around say 55 MPH just press the brake lightly and don't move the gas, your RPM should go up 200. Very easy to check.

No ; lockup is when the clutch in the convertor locks , not when it shifts into 4th (O/d ).

One of the 2 pairs of wires on the brake pedal switch is for the TCC .
Disconnect one wire; if your stoplamps don't work anymore you have the wrong one.

Not meaning to hijack but......what would cause a converter to lock, unlock and then not lock again in normal driving on my '96? Stop and cut the car off and it works fine.

No problem on the hijacking... I think it is worth it for the additional knowledge on the transmission. I will try the brake switch unplugging first and if that dosent work then I will unplug it at the transmission.

It will work if you pull the correct one TCC signal runs from ECM through switch to trans.
Switch is normally closed letting convertor lock up until you brake

This will work, although you'll also lose your speedometer and odometer when unplugged.

There are two plug-ins on the 700R4. One at the tailstock area is speed related. One in the center, more or less, is TCC lock up and 4th gear signal. Can be bypassed by cutting wires but why cut anything if the repair isn't going to take forever?

I want to avoid cutting any wires.. the car is my dd and I just don't have the time right now to deal with it and if it will hold on for about a week I should be caught up enough to get to it.

thanks everyone
