Default Replacing Opti

Hope someone can help me on this. I have a 92 coupe that had it's water pump spring a leak just at season's end. I descided to change the opti at the same time as the water pump as the car had 115,000 on the clock when I bought it. I just received the parts and noticed that the spline on the new opti seems to have one or two of the grooves filled in with metal. Is this the way it is supposed to be or is the spline supposed to be all the way around. I found lots of info about removing the dampener and such when I searched but could not find this answer. Thanks for any assistance.

If the spline was the same all the way round how could it be indexed?

Yes, that's the way it is supposed to be. The Opti will only fit in one way.
