My header are eating my spark plug wires for breakfast! I'm on R&R Leave from Iraq right now. On my first day home I take her out of the garage for a short drive through the neighborhood. Just a few blocks from my home she starts to missfire. I drive back home to investagate the cuase. I find one spark wire burned on the boot on the end near the header. I replace the burnt spark wire and all the spark plugs. I restart her up and problem solved.... So I thought. The next day I take her out again and she starts to miss again after driving a ferw blocks from home. The miss lasted for a few minutes and then she starts for run normal again and then it starts again. I have a set of TPIS header on my car. The headers are thermo coated and heat rapped. The spark plug wires, cap, and rotor were installed new 11 months ago. My car has been stored in my garage the entire time. About twice a month my wife would start her up and let her run for 10 to 15 minutes. The spark wires have heat resistant sleeves protector on them. This was a problem before I left for Iraq. I've used Accel 8.8mm race wires and a less expensive 8mm wires. Has anyone had this problem? If so what was your remedy to solve the problem?

If you are already using the sleeves I would say that you need a different style plug boot. I have a little more heat than most and had to go for a 90 degree and that sits up away from the primaries. You can get 45 as well if 90 won't work or you have to mix and match.
I can't say I know how to fix your problem, but I hope it's minor and can be fixed quickly so you can enjoy your Vette before you go back to Iraq. I guess car problems are nothing compared to being over there. I wish you well with this and God bless you for your service!
I had Taylor wires on my 90 Vette and they had 90 degree ends on em except on cyl #6 where the dipstick is and that one had a 45 on it. A good wire loom kit like Made For You Products will help keep em seperated and when the get down near the plugs I used small wire ties between and around em to keep em off the Headers. GOOD LUCK AND THANK YOU FOR PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY Pipe
I'm guessing the problem is your Dart heads. Plug angle is probably different than the L98s. Accel has some short spark plugs that may help out. MSD has some good boots, I think they call them Pro stock plug wire boots that are high scilicon. Almost impossible to burn.

To all you guys .... Thank you for your support
The Dart heads on my car has the same plug angle as my stock heads. The part of the problem is the TPIS headers. They bolt on easly, but the position of the primaries are closer to the plugs than the stock exhaust manifold. I'll look into trying the MSD plug wires that JackDidely mentioned. I think that should cure my spark plug wire burning problem.
I have VetteTech headers and MSD wires, and I just used some ingenuity in the wiring as well as zip ties to ensure that nothing touches the headers. Just get creative with the routing and use zip ties to keep them suspended over, or restrained under, the header tubes
