I have a factory stock 1993 C-4 with a 4L60 transmission. My torque converter doesn't seem to locking as it should but i'm not sure.
Does anyone know the specs for TQ lockup? At what speed minimum, which gears, etc.?
I've done the preliminary tests and all seems to be well with the external wiring and switches. I've also temporarily wired in a switch between the A & F terminals of the ALDL plug. That switch does not seem to effect the TQ no matter which position I put it in.
Thanks for your input. I am aware of that test and, yes it does lockup sometimes. The problem is that I'm not sure under what conditions it is supposed to lockup so I can't tell if it is locking when it is supposed to or not.
What I really need, if anyone has the answer, is the answer to these two questions:
At what minimum speed is it supposed to lockup?
In what gears is it supposed to lockup? 3rd & 4th, just 4th, etc.?
I am aware that it shouldn't lockup under hard acceleration or below a certain speed. Also, as I said, I did wire a temporary switch between the "A" and "F" terminals of ALDL connector. With the switch in "On" position the torque converter should be locked up manually however that doesn't seem to work (At least not at speeds up to 55 MPH).

Notes from another site.
This A/F switch will override the TC lock signal from the ECM. Except for first gear. So if you engage the switch from a standstill, the TC will lock once the 1-2 shift engages. Then each upshift of the trans will happen with a locked TC.
I hate to sound stupid here but, what is BIN? Also, Tuner-Pro works with OBD1 ??
Thanks again for your advice.
Norm.
TunerPro works with OBDI. You have to download it from tunerpro (for free, but he asks for a donation if you like it) and buy yourself an ALDL USB cable to connect your laptop. I got my cable HERE - make sure you install the driver that comes on the CD with the cable first and then program TunerPro to look at the correct port the USB is plugged into. Then you can start datalogging (after setting up TunerPro, of course).
Tuner-Pro is the aftermarket program that lets you datalog or adjust the tune on your ECM (with the right equipment)
The original codes (BINS) are available free from many sites.
Even if you don't connect to car ,you can do what I did for you and just open the bin to see the factory settings.
