After a year and a half, I finally got my 86 vette back on the road. I spun a rod bearing, so I went ahead and rebuilt the whole engine. My wife just had it smog checked and it passed with flying colors, so I'm pretty jazzed about the whole thing.
If you are planning on rebuilding a Chevy Small Block engine, I highly recommend the book "How to Build the Chevy Small Block". I am an aircraft mechanic and have rebuilt an aircraft engine, various small engines, and tractor engines, but I still learned a lot from this book.

Great news! Nows the time to update your sig as well! :D
Pretty much a stock rebuild, Momma wants to drive it around town some.
I did put a Comp Cams cam (for the TPI), springs, & lifters in it, Manley Street Master valves, Federal Hypereutectic 10:1 pistons with the friction reduction coating on the skirts, refurbished crank & rods (all balanced), ARP head studs & main bolts, high-volume/high pressure oil pump, PAW silicone harmonic balancer, & new B&M flexplate. All good quality parts, made sure all the clearances were right, but not much performance difference than before. At least now it runs!
