so anyhow, over the weekend i did the old opti, plugs and wires along with an electric waterpump. no big deal, right? but when i went to start it it started real easy, sounded great. then i pulled out of the garage and it started to idle erratically and when i hit the gas pedal it sounded like valvetrain noise. so i pulled it back into the garage and it was idling so poorly that it died. i started it up a couple times to try to hear where the clickity clack was coming from but it wouldnt stay running for long enough to find it. at this point i decided to start it up and just let it run(hydraulic lifters not pumping up?) i had to keep a little pressure on the foot feed to keep it running than all of a sudden the tach fell to nothing then the motor died now it wont start at all. i checked the 12v acc wire at the coil and theres no power there at all, ut there is power at the fuse block by the battery. so im thinking maybe ecm?? icm?? i dunno any advice would be taken into consideration and greatly appreciated.
This may be a dumb question, but did you spin the opti by hand before installing to insure that the rotor was clearing the cap?
It sounds like it may have failed...

This is a very good point. There are only 2 small bolts holding the rotor to the assembly. I always open up new units, remove the rotor bolts, put red locktight on them and button it all back up. I just don't trust ANY new Opti...OEM or otherwise. My theory is, the last thing I want to do, is have to remove all this crap again.....because Opti replacements are very time consuming.....
Since it wont even start now, I would suggest you remove the Opti, and open it up and check the rotor.....sorry..
yes, there is oil pressure, and i did spin it prior to installing it and it did just as it should have(its a delco by the way). but even it was bad it wouldnt seem to explain the no power at the coil problem.
