How to refinish shifter plate on console??
Saw topic changing shifter plate on console and know someone has a fix for this just because the finish is coming off. At the cost of interior plastic there must be some kind of spray finish to repair... thanks terry, tbmoore@cableone.net

Mine had been sitting out in the sun and rain for years when I bought it. Since the roof leaks as most due, it had damaged all the console and center console plastic. I thought I could just wipe it off with a damp cloth. Nope....aside from the permanent water marks a lot was cracked around the screw holes. For the cracks I used a dremel and filled it in with JB weld backed with another piece of plastic. Then I sanded it smooth and painted the affected areas with satin black paint. If it were not for all the water marks I might have just blended the areas with some wax. But the rest looked terrible. I used polishing compound on a rag and polished out the entire surface on all the interior plastic. Then I followed with a straight polish and shined each piece up to a mirror image with wax. The painted areas blend in very nicely with the plastic. I probably should have just replaced everything but it looks pretty good. And only took me 3 weeks two hours a night. What a pain.
However, in the past I have had good results with a satin paint (krylon) or an interior paint and wax the surface when it dries.

Mine is looking pretty shabby too...and you can't get new 4+3 console plates anymore. But I really don't want to paint it. Paint scratches and chips so easy..then it would really look like crap if you accindentally dropped your keys on it or something.
