Default cam change..

I have a question about cam change. Im going to port my heads this weekend ( se my post "how lift upp the powerband on a L98 ).
They guy thats going to port my heads says that he MUST now if I am going to run with stock cam or "other" cam in order to do a matching port jobb. Does that mean that I cant change cam later? And I have to do another port jobb? Whats your thougts about that?

Second:

Lets say I will do the cam at same time I take off my heads. How hard is it to change cam on my car? Do I need special tools? And what cam should I use?
IF I go with the cam also i dont have the money to get a super ram right now, and have to use my fully ported orginal plenum and runners instead..
Will gain annything on changing the heads and cam and use my ported plenum and runners? Or MUST I do everything at the same time?

Third:
What can I gain if I change cam, port my heads, and use my orginal ported plenum runners?

Regards

you really should change cams while youre porting the heads, if you cant afford it, then you should wait

It is the best to change the cam at the same time since you will have it a part and because when you change the cam you will have to get better springs and have them put on the heads, so it is beat to just do it now when he has them a part.
If you are going to way to the cam then just pic out the cam you want and tell him how much lift it has and maybe add a little to that but I would get the right springs for that cam you are planing to get later so he can put them on the heads when he is done so you dont have to change them again later.
I dont see why you cant use your plenum and runners you will just not get as much out of your engine as you would with the other intake.

Hope this helps a little
Jay

PS where in Swegen are you?

You will get a signifcant HP increase with the heads, cam and stock intake. In last month's issue of CHP they had an article about the Scoggin-Dickey intake and the Vortec heads, the point is that they got 305hp and 399lbs-ft TQ from nothing but the Vortec heads, SD intake, and stock 87 cam. The Stock TPI will support 300+ Flywheel HP, so your heads and cam will benefit you, but you will gain more down the road when you switch to a Super Ram or whatever.
