I was wondering if anyone has used Zmax and does it really work? I thought about trying it but want to hear some input from others that have used it. Thanks, John.
I used Z-Max about 7 years ago and didn't notice a difference in anything. Z-max requires that you use it on a regular basis (which I didn't), it's not a one time treatment.
I paid about $34 for the kit (fuel, oil and transmission treatment) and about 6 months after I bought it, I received a letter from an attorney representing customers who have purchased Z-Max. The letter stated that Z-Max had made false or exaggerated claims in their advertising.
Months later, I received a check for $34 from the Z-Max corporation.
I now see that Carroll Shelby endorses Z-Max, maybe they changed the formula?
I used it in an old Jeep Wagoneer. It did a very good job of cleaning the inside of the engine. Unfortunately it either dislodged enough crap or cleaned enough of the carbon out of the oil pump that I lost a significant amount of oil pressure. The gears were not damaged, but the housing was quite scored up. Clean as a whistle though...
Zmax got into trouble with the FTC over the exaggerated claims made for the Zmax treatment system. (Use this link to read the FTC's side of the story: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.shtm.)
Zmax then spent the money to document the current claims to win FTC approval. (Use this link to read Zmax's side of the story: http://www.zmax.com/our_company/ceo/.)
Personally, I started using Oil Extreme concentrate in both my '89's after reading David Vizard's article in 2001. I was looking for increased power (both HP and torque), but gas mileage increased also so I wasn't disappointed. (Use this link to read David's article: http://www.oilextreme.com/motortec_article.html.)
YMMV, but I'm very happy with Oil Extreme concentrate.
