Default Headers Install?

Ive been getting the itch real bad to buy some LT headers. My question is, is it worth while to have a shop install them or should i do it myself? I have never done anything like this before but I am definitely willing to. also, How much would a shop charge for LT installation? or if its done hourly like im sure most shops are how many hours should this job take? thanks

I installed Lts from TPiS and it was a snap. They allow you to use the stock bolts and brackets. However, fabbing the rest of the system to mate to them is the hard part. If you have any sort of welding and cutting experience its not too bad.

I installed my Stainless Works headers myself, but had to bring it to a shop to have the pipes welded to the resonator (I kept my factory cat-back). If you already have a Corsa or some other cat-back, you may be able to avoid that step. Here's the instructions from Stainless Works to give you an idea of what's involved:

I don't recall how many hours it took me, but it wasn't too awfully hard. I imagine it all depends how easy the old stuff comes off. The worst part of the whole job for me was getting the cat brace off on the driver's side - there is almost no room to work, took forever turning the wrench one click at a time (had to run to the store to get a longer wrench to boot). Some folks resort to a sawzall, but I didn't want to go that route. The factory cats were also a little tough to remove - I finally used a jam nut to get the stubborn bolts out.

I have no idea what a shop would charge - hopefully someone else can chime in.

I say do it yourself! You'll get the satisfaction of working on your own car and there's plenty of help from "OTHERS" that have taken that path before you. More importantly, you'll find that with enough of these small to medium projects under your belt, you'll feel that you can tackle anything on your Vette!
