Hey there, I have 94 vette and im getting a RANDOM loud poping on my driver side rear speaker. Its loud and when i turn the radio off it goes away. A mechanic said that it could be a short or a bad ground. He also said that its pretty common. What can that be? is it common?
Shortly After getting my '92 the Bose speakers started going one by one. First was the annoying buzzing that came and went, but I could solve that by Crankin' it up!! Then the ducking and swerving as the popping began! I thought I was giving myself a drive-in shooting (as opposed to a drive-by). $200 a whack for complete speakers/enclosures/amps, but it's simpler and cheaper to replace just the amps and speakers into your own enclosures! Do It!!
So what you mean is that the radio AMPS, like the radio itself. When you say amps they are no other amps that the radio, the actual deack, right? I gues i should just change the speakers as well. Thanx
The "head" or stereo basically provides a 'line signal' and the amplification is done at each speaker. The back ones are easy to pull, just be gentle w/the carpet, I haven't done the fronts yet.
The fronts aren't that bad to do, I just did mine. $400.00 later and now the whole unit is blowing fuses. Just be careful when removing the kick panels and make sure you gently lift the panel over the speaker and don't start tugging on it and bust the enclosure. Also the brackets that fasten the speakers to the body are probably brittle from age and will break easily. The fact is it is the speaker amps, the other fact is unless you are devoted to this Bose unit, start looking for a replacement system. I finally did. As a note, when I replaced my amps and they did work the sound was just not that good. it was like listening to the difference of FM versus AM, when compared to todays units.
Yeah, the bose put out lots of base with the windows up, but windows down, or (GASP!) top off, you can't hear anything like music coming out of 'em. There's zero mid's, lots of tin/bass, you know, just how you liked it when you were fifteen and jamming the new Scorpion's cassette in your chevette.
Actually, I got the chevette after the Datsun310.... hatchback... 5-speed... oh, back in the day...
