will the 383 or 355 blueprint engines work with a 89 corvette, if i change the intake to the tpi vortec base manifold. The engines are on jegs for cheap right now and wanted to see if they would work or not. They say something about not working with egr i believe? What exactly does that mean?
The phisical block is the same yes. So it will work, they are larger displacment versions of a small block chevy. A 383 is a stroker motor, it deservs a larger TPI intake if thats the way you want to go. http://www.firstfuelinjection.com/ is a wonderful TPI intake that will work good with that motor. Just find throught google or on this forum a engine build with a TPI and a 383 or a large diplacment motor, and follow it. Ask lots of ??? if you need. PM me and I will try to help if I can.
Man, I would like to have your budget. For $5K-5.5K, I can have a heckuva motor built by a reputable shop close by. Using Eagle rolling assembly, the cost is substantially less. Maybe you dont get some of the top name stuff here but perfectly usable. Build your own, that way the same stuff basically goes back in, no problems with EGR or other issues unless you decide to modify it. I am still searching options here but I have about decided that a local builder is the way to go. Someone close by to talk with and to honor a warranty if something goes wrong.
Do alot of checking around with racers, fellow local vette owners and mechanic shops with good reps, they will be a world of info on the possibilities of getting your engine built instead of waiting for the shipping. You may not be able to brag about what all you have ordered but the clock at the end of the run wont be any different if you choose the right shop.
My .02 and what I have decided to do with my Sled. Good luck to ya!!
