Default AIR Delete-What else?

I know this has probly been done a million times but I'll be durned if I can find it. I guess I am "search" handicapped.

Ive got a puddle of antifreeze under my Sled and I cant see or feel down to find out WTF is leaking. I can feel all under the water pump and the lower hose and its dry. I am hoping one of the heater core hoses has given up but I cant see.

To the question. I am planning a AIR pump delete soon (now I guess) and I was wondering what of the other AIR system I can eliminate while I am waiting on the bracket? Since almost all of the extra AIR crap involved sits right in front of the water pump and hoses, I am gonna have to remove it to see what is leaking anyway and if it can be left off the better for me. There are a few electrical/computer connections on the other AIR parts, will I have to do anything to them or will the engine run right without any mods there?

I am sure someone that has better search skills than I can send me a link to one of the million times this has been answered, I just cant seem to get a handle on what I am trying to find.

Thanks for your patience and help with this before I screw something up. I am headed out to remove what I need to see and I hope my leakage problem is minor.

I did it. I just gutted the pump. There is a little black box(computer) for the A.I.R. on the passenger side near the maf area. You can remove that, all the hosing that runs along the exaust manifolds and then in front of the motor & behind the radiator. Plug off the air lines on the manifolds. Tie up the wires from the A.I.R. computer with a loom or something similar and tuck it underneath the plenum area to keep it out of the way. Thats pretty much it. There is a tube that resembles a shower faucet by the water pump that I had to go back and remove. I do not have any pics though. It was quite easy and it makes the engine bay alot cleaner looking.

Thanks Harley, I pretty much unbolted the front of the motor and got the AIR piping off, only skint one knuckle. I put the pump back on til I get the delete bracket. With that gone, the motor will be easier to see and work on. I taped the connectors and tucked em under and plugged the vacuum. I was just worried that the ECM had to have some input from the modules.

Still havent figured where the water is coming from, I hope its not a freeze plug rusted out. I have had it for the day so I will look at it tomorrow

Thanks again!

Oh, just in case you didn't find the answer, your car will NOT throw any codes or any change from the ECM due to the A.I.R. delete. So you are set to go.

I ordered the Delete bracket yesterday and that'll get rid of the pump. Bad news is, I can see that I have a freeze plug leaking. I promised myself I was only gonna spend what I needed to keep it running but it looks like that aint gonna work. Getting rid of the AIR pump was necessary, right?

Default Question for Hlhneast, AIR delete bracket

Where did you order your delete bracket for the removal of your air pump. I need to do the same thing on my C4. Thanks for your response or anyone's response. Keithj.

Multiple vendors sell it.

TPiS - CLICK HERE.
DRMS - CLICK HERE. Then click on C4 corvette in the upper left corner. Then scroll down past the engines to the AIR delete pulleys. They just sell the TPiS-made pulley.

You can also make your own on the cheap. Search the forums for more info on that.

I searched the Forum and there is a pretty detailed DIY Delete write up if you have access to the machine tools you need and a source for the pulley. I bought the TPiS because it looked the best and was cheaper than the others. The TPiS bracket ($149) is made of machined aluminum rather than a few pieces of flat iron and some spacers for $180. It looks like it belongs there instead of something cobbled together.

One thing I didnt like about the TPiS site is they dont add the shipping when you order it. They are supposed to figure shipping and then let you know how much it is. I still havent heard from them and I ordered it Monday early. Hope I hear from them and they get my bracket out quick.

Hey KJ, did TPiS contact you about the shipping cost or did ya order over the phone and get the info? Still havent heard anything, I am hoping they chose UPS ground and its on the way.

I looked again for the bracket detail. I think Agent 86 made his own bracket, you might PM him and ask about it. There was a post that had a link to a .pdf with the shape and measurements but I'll be durned if I can find it again

Got the bracket istalled with some modifications. I guess maybe the general scope includes 84-96 but my late '85 wasnt an exact replacement. I ended up grinding some of my alternator case down to get the bracket to lay down enough to allow the top alternator bolt to thread in. This difference may be in my specific alternator and not indicative of the model. What kinda griped me was I had to go and get another serpentine belt to the tune of $41 that was a full inch shorter than stock. Dunno what happened there but I was a little disappointed.

THe TPiS Air Delete bracket is nicely made and after I tweaked it some, it is working fine. Since it seems every thing I do is a PITA, this was no different than any other project.
