I have a 89 vette with the factory 17 inch wheels. They have the center caps that cover the lugs. These center caps have the factory locking screws on them. My problem is I dont have the key to unlock these caps. As I dont want to mess up the caps does anyone have an idea to get the locking screws out of these caps with out damaging the center caps? I have called around to some local dealers and they dont dont want to mess with me. I have also dropped by some tire shops and they dont have a good idea either.
Call a Chevy Dealer and get a key blank and/or key code and go to locksmith and get a key cut. Although you may be able to get the key from the dealer.
I've been there too. A big easy out and a drill. I used the square tapered type of easy out not the spiral kind. I don't recall the size drill bit maybe 5/16. It turns out the bolts are not hardened so they drill pretty easily. Good luck and have fun.
"left hand" drill bits MAY remove the "lock" while drilling...centerpunch before drill...after you remove the locks, take one to your local "fastenal" bolt store and get socket head (allen wrench) stainless steel bolts (they're metric, btw) to replace the "locks" (unless your local thief types carry metric allen wrenches)
