Default Temp Gauge Read LO All The Time.....

According to the Helms, there is an ECM coolant temp sending unit, and 2 temp sensors, one in each head, is this correct? And which one is most likely the one causing the dash to display LO? I don't get and SES codes, and all the other readouts function 100% correct. It worked fine up until about a week ago, and I haven't done any work to it lately. Any possible options before I start tearing in are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

There's one under the TB but not sure where the other is located.

The resistance goes up as temp goes down. So a very low reading could mean an open in the wiring or a connector slipped off. Pull the connector and check resistance with a DMM to see if the sensor is OK.

Two temp sensors on my 89, and I temp switch.

The sensor that feeds the digi-dash is on the passenger side in-between #6 and #8 right above the starter - sort of. If the wire gets disconnected it can read "low" on the dash. Also could be a failed sensor. You can measure the resistance of the sensor if you have a meter. AT 40*F the sensor should be about 7,500 ohms; at 210* the sensor should be about 185 ohms. This is a two wire sensor so you measure across the terminals of the sensor with the wires disconnected. Also the one of the wires (dark green?) will be 5V with the ign. on and the other wire (black) will be ground. So reading across the two wires on the connector should be 5V. If you ground the Dark green wire with the ign on the temp display should go way high like over 300*, if it does not then you have an open in the circuit somewhere.

Good Luck

Pete

Once again the Corvetteforum comes through with shining colors, first place I checked was passenger side sensor, and sure enough, the connector was off, works like a charm now. Would of figured it out anyway, but you forums guys pointed me to the right sensor the first time around! Thx again!
