Default Wiring Blues...

Guys,
I just bought a heated O2 sensor from Autozone and was installing it in my new 2.5" duel exhaust. Followed the instructions from the tech section very good. Anyways when I tied into the fan relays for a 12v source, the fan comes on when I hook up the ground...Thats not right. I realize what I is happening, therefore need another good 12v source (only when ignition is on) please help me out. I had to come in to baby sit my little one therefore did not have time to explore other possibilities. I'm sure some you know of some off the top of your head. thanks a million. Its really appreciated. Just because I know someone will ask..Why heated? Its because I have ceramic hooker headers with no smog provisions and did not want to put a hole in the header's collector, therefore it is in the next pipe back. Thanks for all your help you can visit "the project" post for more details. Thanks Guys!

What color wire did you tap into? Was the key on? If you ground the green wire with a white stripe on the fan relays the fans will turn on when the key is on.

sorry scorp,
I made that sound like it shouldn't have come on. I realize that is exactly what is suppose to happen. What I was trying to say is, it is not a good idea to tie into the green/white strip, when hooking up this O2 sensor or the fans will be on all the time. Follow me? Yes the key was on, that is what I need, a power sourse of 12v that will not turn something on because the o2 sensor is grounded. Were elso could I find a hot with 12 volts?

Hmm, you need 12v near the O2 sensor....

Thanks, but were is it located and will it turn the wipers on when the o2 sensor is grounded? I figured one of these items should have power, but did not have a diagram handy. Please advise, its greatly appreciated. i want to take the car out and try it out tomorrow, and get that freakin TV cable straightened out. But I need to make sure this thing is working first. Thanks for the help guys.

tnt,
Hey that worked great! Thanks for the help. I wonder if there are different brackets for different cars? You got me! The next big delema was my car started to miss real bad shake after the o2 sensor was in and the car was ideling. I thought now why would it start doing that? I went out and the headers burned a hole through 3 Spark Plug wires! It looked like the 4th of july under there! Now I have to drive ~50 miles to a speed shop to get peformance wires. Man I want to take it out and get that TV cable straightened out. Its January and ~40 degrees and sunny. That happens about every 10 yrs here in PA during this month. Therefore I want to get it out and get that TV cable ironed out becuase it might be another 3 months before I can do it again! Wish me luck! And thanks again/
