Default How to remove the oil filter mount?

Im taking my motor apart and I cant get the oil pan off til I remove the part that the oil filter mounts to. Any ideas? I got the two hex screws and the filter mounting screw but it wont budge loose. Is it a gasket, seal, jaws of life holding it on?

Are you talking about the oil cooler?

Nothing special...heck, I don't even remember a gasket there. The two bolts and smack it with a wood drift so ya don't bust it. I am not sure why it is blocking your pan though.

Here is some pics. Basically the mount is in the way and the crank is stopping it from being jiggled off. Every bolt you see securing the pan has been removed even the star studs in the front.

Now I see why...That's different than to old style adapter for sure. Tos two bolts seem to be in the same location as the old style though and should be all that is holding it. That type of adapter will more than likely have a seal that with the higher temps that these engines run may have gotten a bit "sticky" over time.
Did you give it a smack with a mallet yet??

The two bolts you already removed are what hold it in place. There's a flat gasket and an o-ring between it and the block. Pop it with a rubber mallet to break it free.

Crap.

Any pics of the gasket?

I'm just about to stick my motor back in after the rebuild, and when I put the filter adaptor back on I only used the big O-ring.

Edit: Nevermind. Found a pic of the kit.

I just removed my filter adapter last weekend. I unbolted the two bolts with an allen wrench and pulled it right off. It's probably just stuck. Use a rubber mallet. There was a round gasket in there that I need to find a replacement for.

My new Fel-pro oil pan gasket kit came with a new gasket and O ring for the oil filter adapter. Yup - just smack it!
