Default N00b Question.....

Hey there, Im completely new to this forum and I just (finally!) became a vette owner last week. The C4 was always my favorite growing up, speciafically 94-96. So I bought a 95 with 77k miles... So here is my super noob question.... Im used to driving the C5 vettes and leased a 2001 Camaro SS back in the day. I would like to make my vette as fast as the stock LS1 cars but I would like to do it without getting into any serious engine mods. Also I prefer the sound of the stock exhaust. So without changing the exhaust or getting new heads/cam or any of that stuff, what is the best way to make the LT1 as fast as the stock LS1? Is is possible? I was thinking about getting a chip for the car and getting a cold air intake but im sure thats not enough!! =) Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ryan

Save your money on the chip. It isn't going to add anything on a stock engine. If you want to see any serious improvement you are going to need to look at intake and exhaust.

you have an lt1 which means the factory already fixed the intake problem. The exhaust was also improved on it, that is why it is 3oo hp compared to the 235-250hp l98 in the 85-91's. So for real power now you have to spend real money on real mods. You could do
- U.D pullies
-1.6 roller rockers
-long tube headers
-gm hotcam
IMHO, but the others can help you, but I think this would run with a stock ls1

Sure, that's an option just as long as you have deep pockets.

Remember, when looking to improve the power of an engine, it all boils down to the FOUR "C"s.

Cubic Inches
Cylinder Heads
Camshaft
Compression

Cylinder Heads and Camshaft will put you over what a stock LS1 makes, but I did all four.

My biggest problem is that I dont know how to work on cars.. So I'm going to need deep pockets if I want anything done unfortunately.. So my upgrades would be few and very far between. Haha.

2800 stall convertor will go a long way in getting it off the line.

My best suggestion is to get a field service manual, a good set of tools, and get ready to learn. Or trade her for a C6 still in warranty.

The LS1 as you know is a pretty stout motor. You should be able to hold your own vs an LS1 F-body however. This mainly due to HP to weight, gearing etc. As far matching LS1 power, the biggest value would come from the GMPP Hotcam kit. There are alot of experienced people on this forum and just maybe someone close to you that would help for say pizza and beer. Who knows? But simple bolt ons isn't quite going to get you there, sorry to say.

Yeah I think I may go for the LT4 conversion... I have to save money for it though. What do you guys think of that? Is it worth it or is it a waste of time for the money?
