Recommended mufflers for C4
So, before I buy new mufflers......are there any recommended name brands?
Chevy dealership? Midas? any repair shop that I trust? or is there a Muffler Specialist for Corvettes? Does it really matter?
Personally, I would like the car to be quiet. My job is stressful enough......a quiet ride home is nice....knowing that when I need the power, I got it.

Sent you an email regarding some "factory" exhaust! This isn't in the email! You're "local" and I'll let you "try it before you buy it"!!!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

)OMG! If you drive a Corvette, you SHOULD want to drive a sports-car. If you want a quiet, non-stressful ride home from work, trade it for a Caddy.

O.K., I feel better now.... First thing I'd want to know is if your center resonator is still in the car. If not, replace that first -- before going any further. A muffler shop would do it for the lowest cost.... way lower than a dealership. (BTW: I agree...buying anything from a dealer is stupid. It will cost you too much. OTOH, these fancy, name-brand mufflers cost too much as well. But, at lease you get a better-designed muffler. IOW, they flow better).
If the resonator is still in place -- and you MUST go quiet as stock, try muffler shops on that too. I wouldn't be surprised if that was $500 less than dealer or name-brand sports mufflers!
If there's room for some growl, Corsa is the commonly recommended after-market, name-brand option. If resonance is the issue, you might also consider resonator tips -- like these. If that doesn't satisfy you, you could always replace the resonator with a generic muffler (afterwards).
BTW: The mufflers I linked above are for older vettes that have smaller diameter exhaust. But I believe you can find slash-cut resonators in raw form. (I found them a few years back anyway).

That will buy you some time to shop for the right sound
I had stock exhaust on my 93 when I had bolt ons and with headers and no cats it sounded phenomenal. Try to find someones take off system thats local to you.

The stock mufflers flow extremely well w/o any resonance.Sometimes I think they are too quite. You could probably pick up a set for $50.00 bucks or so and have your local muffler shop install them.
I have been called a lot worse! ha ha.......Good ending to the story....A forum member picked up on my thread and dropped off a entire exhaust system from the Cats back......had it installed and WOW. Now I can hear all kinds of other noises coming from the car!
However, with respect to the dealer issue.......I have been a backyard mechanic for about 30 years and NEVER would go to a dealership until about 5 years ago......long story......But, I have actually had some very good experiences with them, especially with the quality....not on all parts, but definitely on some.....I do not what has changed, but it some cases they are competitive with the price and in my opinion a better quality.......bottom line is that I tend to shop around and ask questions before buying and a lot has to do with the specific part.
