I'm planning on doing a cam swap before I pull the car out of storage this spring. I don't have alot of miles on my current lifters, but I was wondering how to know if they need replacing.
I'd rather do them now if they need it so how do I test them?

what year is it ????? the 88's had roller lifters & don't need changed ! If It's not broke don't fix it !!!! If you do the cam swap put in new lifters don't use the old ones !!!!
Check the rollers for pitting or any other visible damage. If you're using a cam with a lot more lift than stock or that will require much higher valve spring pressure, a new set of lifters would be cheap compared to having to go back and change them later.

I'd just toss em ! A new cam & old lifters is not good !!! the expense of new lifters is nill compared to havin to pull it apart again & still puttin in another new cam & NEW LIFTERS!!!! Use a good cam lube too!!... From the desk of the "SWAMP RAT"
If he's going with a relatively mild cam, the stock roller lifters would be fine. Your advice seems to assume he's running a flat tappet cam, which he's not.

NO ! but the lifters will get a wear pattern to em ! rollers or not so the price of new lifters is nada !! I bought a new cam & lifters for like 150 & yeah I am goin to go with a flat tappet cam ! In fact It's settin in my living room right now waitin on some new rockers !!
If a set of roller lifters has developed a wear pattern, there is something wrong. With normal operation and use a set of roller lifters can be reused with no problems.

What he said. Rollers can be reused if undamaged, flat tappet lifters should never, never be reused with a new cam.
If it were me, I would replace the lifters. No, it is not neccessary with rollers, but the LS7 lifters are really good. Although, given choices, if your lifters are still good, you might want to think about the opti and timing gears. If you're going with a more aggressive cam, you'll be happier with the LT4 timing set up. And I think the opti goes with out saying, now would be a good time to upgrade to the vented opti.

I'm actually going with a LESS agressive cam. I'm tired of the rough idle. And there is no Opti. I got rid of that thing long ago and run a rear mount distributor with a cam/crank sensor in it.
Are LS7 lifters a strait drop in? For $125 I think I would probably just change them out. Where can I find more info on these?

They are a direct fit. I bought mine through a GM dealership. You can also get them through Scoggin Dickey. As I understand it they are a little lighter and stronger than the stock ones, not to mention cheaper.
